#SheSharesTruth | Psalm 130

When I was younger, I always “did” Lent because my friends did. I didn’t understand the premise behind it or really anything about what I was doing, but, aside from the meat thing, I gave up a thing or two and called it good.

In the past years, I have usually added something to my reading or journaling that would bring me closer to Him instead of taking away chocolate or Dr Pepper. This year, I’m joining in with She Reads Truth and writing on Fridays through Lent. (Don’t worry, Fashion Friday will be back soon; and crazy outfits will still litter my posts.)

This week, we read Psalm 130.

As I switched between versions to grasp a deeper meaning, it hit me in The Message:

When God arrives in our hearts, so does His love, so does his generous redemption! He will meet us right where we are–whether we’re at the lowest point in our life, like the Psalmist crying out, or the highest of high, He will meet us right there. All we have to do is cry out to Him. He wants to welcome us into the Kingdom. He’s there waiting with open arms, love, and generous redemption! What good news!

If You Don’t Know Me By Now

Lists of things people might not know about us are pretty common, but what about the things we think are common knowledge?

Here are a few things I think most folks know about me:
(There are in no particular order.)

6. I’m a teacher turned work-at-home mom.
7. I have a master’s degree from Texas A&M.
8. I love Fightin’ Texas Aggie Football.
9. I might (it’s highly likely) have an addiction to shoes.
10. I love systems and organization.
11. I’m extremely loyal; I love my friends and family.
12. New York City is my favorite place on earth.
13. I can be a little OCD.
14. I could eat Chick-fil-A pretty much every day.
15. I drink Dr Pepper like it’s going out of style.
16. I love to learn; I aspire to have a PhD one day.
17. I’d be lost without my iPhone.
18. Target. That is all.
19. I like staying in fancy hotels.

Any surprises? Anything you would add?

Victory Claimed

We know that in Christ, death is not final. Christ wins; the victory is His and His alone.

Essentially, Satan loses. Is that where the “Did I do enough?” “Had I seen him enough?” “When was the last time I talked to him?” thoughts come from? Does Satan plant those to drive a wedge with those of us he hasn’t lost yet? Our loved one has gone Home. Eternally. No longer tempted, tried, hurting. Is Satan’s only defense to try to break down those that are left behind with thoughts that aren’t even important?

Even in celebrating eternal life and a life well-lived on earth, I don’t know many people who don’t have at least some twinge of “what if” when someone moves from this life to the next. Satan is the king of lies. The planter of doubt.

I hadn’t put that together until this morning. So, to him, I say, “Get behind me, Satan!”

I choose joy. I choose celebration of life and proclamation of eternal victory claimed.

Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” –Mathew 16:23

I’ll Let it Go if You’ll Call Me on The Way to Sesame Street

Aside from a David Letterman monologue or twenty growing up, I don’t watch late night talk shows.

A few years ago, though, I discovered Jimmy Fallon’s classroom instruments via the internet. When I read via the internet that Jimmy Fallon was moving into Jay Leno’s spot, I asked Mr. Gray (who has watched less late night talks shows than I have) if he would still do the classroom instruments spots.

Luckily, the answer is a resounding YES!

Enjoy:

Some of my other favorites from the past:
Late night side note: we have tried to go watch them film David Letterman a couple of times when we have been in New York. Annie and Aunt Cookie actually got tickets this time! They’ll be at a filming this week. I still can’t believe it’s been almost five years since I’ve been to my favorite city on the planet!

(We have a trip in the works, though. YAY!)

My Monday

Oh, Monday. You’re so good to me. A happy boy, productivity, some me time.

Monday

Since Baby Gray was born, Monday has been my day to get prepared and be productive. I love the way it works out. Now that he’s in school on Monday, it’s been taken a step further: I get some me time, along with preparing for the week. I can sneak in a Target run or some coffee between meetings, chat with a friend over lunch, or just get work done so I’m focused on the boy when he is home other days throughout the week. It’s the perfect start to the week!

What’s your Monday look like?

Lovely Weather

I’ve talked before about how much I love communicating with Mr. Gray through notes and written words. We have a shared journal, dry erase markers for the mirror, and an endless amount of paper products (mostly personalized) and pens. Something about written words, anywhere, just speaks straight to my heart.

The latest morning surprise I have been getting is a short note on the mirror with the weather for the day.

Lovely Weather

If you know me at all, you understand how much this speaks to who I am. I do not check the weather–unless there is a weather phenomenon, then all I do is check the weather. Flash flood? Yes, please! Tornado? Even better. (As long as no one gets hurt or anything, of course.) My day-to-day routine does not include the weather forecast. It’s a problem sometimes. I love that Mr. Gray, all on his own, started leaving me my own personal daily forecast. Super sweet. (The first one had a fun, hand-drawn umbrella on it–LOVE!)

Six-tea Surprise

Once upon a time, in a land before Facebook, Annie turned 50. I planned a surprise party while I was away at school, had the perfect story, got her there, got everyone there, no issues, no strings, no problem. I still can’t remember how I found and contacted everyone, but it worked.

Fast forward ten years. Annie was turning 60, and I wanted to bring my A-game. I started looking for a place and looking for friends of hers to contact and invite. Somehow, Annie’s Facebook settings don’t show me her friends, so I didn’t even have that much of an advantage this go ’round.

We faked a birthday dinner (complete with a box of tea to commemorate her turning six-tea) on her actual birthday and called it done. Or so she thought.

Aunt Cookie, T-Paw, and I were still scheming for how to get her to The Goodnight on Saturday (she was proving to be a hard sell). That Friday, we had another little wrench thrown in things, but we eventually got it all squared away. We thought.

Mr. Gray and I hosted a garage sale (we had to keep appearances up), grabbed cupcakes from 2Tarts (are there any others?), and headed up to get things in order. Instead, we got there, and the team that was assigned to our party was on it. We didn’t have to do much of anything but show up. It was amazing. I need to host more parties like that.

Annie kept asking questions, and Aunt Cookie and Uncle L kept their game faces on.

We had all her favorite cake flavors–also amazing.

Yep, Zoltar from BIG was there. We party with the big wigs. Is my age showing?

The Goodnight had tons of games: bowling, pool, shuffleboard, I don’t even know what all. It was a perfect setting for a group as large as ours to keep everyone entertained. We had a blast.

Also, much to Mr. Gray’s chagrin, Annie was on fire on the bowling alley!

Thanks to T-Paw, Aunt Cookie, Uncle L, Mrs. Denise, and the fabulous folks at The Goodnight for all your help!

Run Rant: On Your Feet

I have so many friends who run that tell me their feet hurt, they get blisters, etc. I’m no expert, but my first question is always, “Have you had your gait analyzed?” Usually the answer is no. If you’re a runner, especially if you’re just starting out, it’s worth it to get shoes that fit.

(Second question, just for the record, “What socks are you wearing?”)

Run Rant On Your Feet

Head to your nearest running store (I’m not talking Foot Locker here), and ask them to analyze your gait. They will. Then they’ll pull some shoes that will work for your running style and your feet. You can try on to your heart’s content. Truly, they will help you find a pair that works for you. I’ve done this at several different places, and all of them worked hard to find me a shoe that fit. I have weird feet and knees, so this isn’t always easy.

And, of course, when you find a pair you love, the shoe company will stop that specific model and come out with a new one. They’ll claim it’s the same shoe, but it won’t always fit the same. Go back to the store!

A few suggestions:
