Take Two

Well, this is it. This is really it.
After Isaac wreaked havoc on lives and football schedules, this is really game week. Now I’m even more excited. It’s our first SEC game, our home opener, Gameday will be there, and an overall pretty big deal. Kyle Field is going to be ridiculous. Ree-dic-u-lous, I say.
We’ve been there for several of the top attendance games. We’ve been there for record-breaking sound games. This will be unprecedented, though.
Nebraska 2010: pure craziness!
Missing the game this week (even though it was a TV game) has made the anticipation even greater. I can hardly stand it!

Placement

Notes and letters really float my boat. I’ve made that pretty clear. Sometimes, though, they’re made even more special with the thought that goes into the placement.
Love Notes
To the naked eye, this is a piece of an envelope stuck on a keyboard. Yes, it is that, but it’s so much more. You see, Mr. Gray and I are not at all on the same night time schedule. We have time together from the time he gets home until about 9:30 or 10:00. Then (when we’re not engrossed in a TV series on Netflix) he goes to bed, and I read, write, work, or become otherwise productive while he sleeps.
One night, after he had already crawled into bed, I found this sweet little note awaiting me. It was a great start to my productive night. I even woke him to tell him how special it was, which I’m certain was not an encouragement to do it again. I was so surprised, and my heart just melted. I love the thought that went into starting my night off right.

Happy Meals

Mr. Gray and I are big believers that Baby Gray needs to eat pretty much what we’re having at meal times. This is mostly in an effort to keep him from being as picky as I can sometimes be. We are not the family who brings in the Happy Meal (well, in our case, it would be Chick-fil-A) when we go to a restaurant.
One of Baby Gray’s favorites is Asian food. He loves egg rolls and edamame, along with pretty much anything of an Asian variety I’ve put in front of him.
A while back, he asked to use chopsticks. Daddy gave him a little lesson, and he’s been at it ever since.

How You Doin’?

If you’re from the Friends generation, it’s hard to even read that in your mind without Joey’s voice, right?

In the last few weeks, I’ve noticed how often people ask how I’m doing. Way more often than not, though, it’s just a greeting with nothing behind it. It kind of makes me cringe–then I hear myself doing it, too!

How are you doing? How’s it going? How are you?

It’s a nice sentiment. Depending on the day lately, I haven’t wanted to even entertain it as such. Some days, I haven’t even put forth the effort to say, “I’m doing well, thank you,” I just nod and smile as I keep on walking.

It’s made me wonder how many people just go through the motions and say they’re okay when they’re nothing but. It breaks my heart to think about people who are dealing with serious issues as we all casually walk by and ask them how they’re doing. We mean well, but it’s constantly bringing to the surface the fact that it’s not all alright for them.

It’s made me grateful for the friends who have really sat down and asked how I’m doing and meant it. Those who wouldn’t have taken okay for an answer. Those who have wanted to know how my heart is. How my head is. How I’m processing. How our family is. How we’re dealing. They’ve let me talk, cry, and pour my heart out as needed–and they will continue to do so. God has surrounded me with the greatest support system.

This Is It

This is it, folks. Game week.
I say it every year, and every year I mean it. I love football season. I never thought in a million years that I would be one of “those Aggies.” I’m oh-so-glad I am, though!
Thursday can’t come soon enough. What’s worse, though, is that Mr. Gray has class and has made me promise I won’t watch the game or check stats until he gets home. Killer. It’s going to be killer. I can’t break a promise, though.
Oh, did I mention it’s an away game? Yep. Season opener on the road. Also killer. Kyle Field, I’ll see you next week for our first SEC game. It’s going to be fabulous–absolutely fabulous. Seats shaking, heart pumping, crazy. I can hear the drums now.

Ahhh! Just looking at the photos gets me all pumped up–even if it’s not quite football weather just yet.

Baby Gray is pumped, too. He’s been practicing the “Aggie Song” for weeks.

Beach Boy

My favorite thing about parenting is the firsts that unfold before your eyes. Yesterday, Baby Gray got to experience the beach for the first time. He had a great time! I loved watching him explore and learn with his senses.

Benedict Arnold

I’m a loyalist of sorts. I don’t often stray from the norm–even if I’m not sure why or how the norm was put into play.
So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. –2 Thessalonians 2:15
This week at HEB, they had every sandwich scenario imaginable linked to a coupon: buy bread, get meat; buy meat, get mayonnaise; a bread showdown (buy the competitor, get their bread free); tuna; cheese; pretzels–literally every scenario for a lunch box was covered. I had several of the coupon items on my list already, so I finagled it around to get the best deal. The extras could be added to my weekly donation.
One of the freebies came with a bit of a traitor feeling:
Mayo
Yep, Hellman’s. I’m sure that’s not really a big deal, but I have never–not once–bought any other mayo than Kraft. So, I branched out. I even tried it once I got it home. Guess what–it tastes like mayonnaise!

Glow Much Fun

Remember how fun glow sticks were as a kid? Of course, back then, they were nine-million dollars from special shows or events. You could get a little extra life out of them if you froze them, but that might have been more of a state of mind.
Now, though, glow sticks are easily accessible (Dollar tree, even), and, thanks to Pinterest, more fun.

Just for kicks, we stuck the glow sticks in the freezer when we were done with them.
