Keep Stepping

You know those times when you see God unfolding the most perfect plan before your eyes, but you just can’t make sense of it at all? You try to push, pull, and force every piece of the puzzle in to a place it doesn’t belong in an attempt to begin to understand. He doesn’t ask you to understand. He asks you to have faith–faith that He will meld all the brush strokes together at just the right time. Faith that He will create a masterpiece more beautiful than anything you could ever dream of.

Masterpiece

God is good, and He wants an abundant joyful life for each of us. We just have to have faith. To follow Him. To take the steps that don’t always make sense, simply because they’re the steps He is leading us to. They are not always the steps to the outcome we desire, but they are always the way to what He has for us. I’ve walked in these steps many times–sometimes to exactly what I wanted; other times to things so much better than what I could have ever dreamed. Still other times, I have followed Him to right where I needed to be for that season, even though it wasn’t initially what I wanted at all.

I read this yesterday, and it was just perfect for seasons of the unknown:

Real faith isn’t a hopeful wish. Real faith is making the decision that no matter the outcome, we’ll choose to see it as God’s perfect answer.

Through the good. Through the not-so-good. And even through the down right awful- we will trust God. Now, this doesn’t mean we won’t cry and express hurt. But it does mean we’ve decided it’s better to have lived trying to take leaps of faith with God, than to walk away from Him.

Whoa, What a Weekend!

We made our way to the hometown this weekend for some family fun!

We hung out with old friends, flew some chickens, ate good food, and were all tucked safely in to bed by 9:30 (that’s when the last light went off) Sunday evening.

Fall Wrap Up

When I was in the classroom, I became a bit of a book hoarder. I wanted every book I could find–especially if it went to a certain thematic unit I would be teaching. Fall and all its components was no exception. The past two years, we have barely tipped the iceberg on our fall books because one would become a favorite that was read over and over.

This year, I decided to take a tip from last December and wrap all the fall books. That way each one will be new and fun each day.

I pulled out my books and started sorting.

Books

Thirty.

Luckily, Bean had just given a birthday book to the boy that wasn’t in my stack yet. I found it and, ta-da, thirty-one!

Jake

I sorted them by theme and date, just as I would for the classroom and got ready to wrap.

Ready to Wrap

I got to work, and promptly ran out of wrapping paper. Enter the brown paper shopping bags I’ve been saving all this time. Recycling at its finest (he won’t be bothered by it).

Wrapped

We are ready to roll through October with treats, fun, and reading! I can’t wait to share some of my favorite fall books each day.

There’s an App for That

This boy of ours (Notice I still haven’t done the ol’ re-branding? It’s coming. I think.) loves him some Apple products: iPhone, iPad, if someone will let him play with it, he’s lovin’ every second. He learned a very special new trick a week or so ago–deleting apps. Yep. He deleted every single app on Mr. Gray’s phone. Then every single app on Mr. Gray’s iPad. Yep. All of them. Each one. After round two on the iPad, I figured there had to be a way to keep from deleting stuff. There is! Toddler parents, you’re welcome.
Go into Settings:

Then choose General:

Choose Restrictions (it will say off initially and you’ll be asked to create a four-digit passcode):

Within Restrictions, you can choose what you would like to disable:
Since the boy doesn’t use my phone often at all, I have only disabled deleting apps. For his phone I have almost everything disabled to keep him from purchasing things (oddly enough, he’s never deleted the apps on his phone, only on Mr. Gray’s; maybe he knows it’ll just be gone if he deletes his).
Side note: even if you haven’t updated to iOS7 yet, the options are the same.

Blast Off for Birthday Fun!

My little astronaut and headed out yesterday evening for a birthday date.

Astronaut

He got ready for blast off, and away we went!

Blast Off

We had a few caps and hats in between, but ultimately, the ice cream man enjoyed his birthday doughnut (sprinkles first and last thing–sounds like a birthday to me).

Krispy Kreme

After his doughnut, the ice cream man and I headed to Target.

Target

He quickly turned into a super dino–or three!

We had such a blast; just the simplest things make for a great evening with him.

(And, yes, he was totally that kid in Target. To top it off, though, he asks everyone we pass if they like his outfit. I love to see strangers’ faces as they figure out what to say to him.)

(Also, the bolded things are his thoughts; not mine.)

Three to Be Me!

Last night I tucked two year-old Baby Gray in for the very last time.

Night

He woke up this morning, rip-roaring and ready to go. He hardly noticed the balloons in his room (granted, we’ve had balloons around since Sunday’s party) before heading straight out to go play.

I tried to sing to him, but he wasn’t really having that (he did let Uncle Clay and Annie sing to him, though). He loved that he got to help make sprinkle birthday pancakes, so there’s that.

Blow Em Out

He knows today is special and fun, even if he doesn’t quite get the whole birthday thing just yet. I always want him to know that we celebrate his life. We love him more and more each day and are so proud of the little boy he is becoming.

Today, sweet boy, on your third birthday, know that I love you so much. I can’t wait to see the plans God has for you for a life of abundance and joy. Run after Christ with your arms wide open and never lose the curiosity you have about Him.

Family

I can’t wait to see what year three has for us as a family!
