Almost Wordless Wednesday

I’ve been reading Alli’s blog for a while now, but she sure hit the nail on the head on Monday.

So, instead of trying to re-state what she said so well, I’ll just have you head on over there.

Really. Click here. I’ll wait.

Great! You’re back. Really. I feel the same way. Read our stories. Leave your thoughts. Comment. Share.

Beach Fun

Come back tomorrow. I’m glad you’re here.

T E N

1. New Kyle Field. First game. Four days. Who’s ready? (Hint: this girl.)

2.  I definitely received an ice bucket challenge last week and promptly forgot about it. I call it a win-win. I donated, and I didn’t have to take an ice bath. (Just an FYI, I donated here due to embryonic stem cell research used by the ALS website.)

3. Year two of Happy House starts tomorrow. This boy of ours is ready, Freddie!

First Day

Look at last year’s first day photo! He looks so different, but so much the same.

4. I have been quite the slacker in the kitchen since we moved to the house on the hill. I need to unpack some more pots and pans or something (maybe I’ll start with finding them).

5. Soccer practice starts today. I can’t wait to see how this pans out. A bunch of itty-bitties running around kicking soccer balls. It has to be funny.

6. I am so grateful we live near our families and that they are so involved. It makes life so much sweeter!

7. Sometimes I do laundry in shifts, which makes for quite a while before I hit the bottom of the hamper. I almost always find something I forgot I had when I do that. It feels like a free shopping trip!

8. I’m so glad I’m decisive. This house-building stuff would be such a disaster if I weren’t. (Fun fact about my decisive-ness: I bought my wedding dress online, sight unseen. It was just what I wanted.)

9. I miss having fresh flowers at home. Our grocery store doesn’t have them. Last week, we found some flowers in one of the tiny stores nearby. They were pretty, so I grabbed some to take home. Later, I noticed their sticker: mini-carnations. Who would have thought?

10. Best quotes of the long weekend:
“Cowboys don’t pee their pants.”
“Y’all don’t go to the Catholic church, do you?”

I Love Ya, Tomorrow!

Toooooooooo-morrow! Tomorrow! I love ya, tomorrow! You’re only a daaaaaaaaaaaay uhhhhhhhh-waaaaaaaaaay! (I know what you’ll be singing all day.)

Anyone know what tomorrow is?

Aggie Football

Why, it’s Fightin’ Texas Aggie Football day, of course! I’ll be hoppin’ on a jet plane dark and early Thursday morning to watch the Ags BTHOsc! It’ll be a quick trip, but it’ll be fun

Side note: that photo made me realize that Kyle Field is going to look completely different when we kick off on September 6th. It’s going to be amazing, but a little strange at the same time. What can I say, I’m a traditional kind of gal.

Who will you be rooting for Thursdsay?

Super Sleuth

It would appear as though we have quite the detective on our hands.

We got in the car Friday for what I assumed was a normal ride with the questions started.

“Mom, did you chew my gum?” he asked.

“No, I don’t think so.” I replied as I drove; I was starting to recall I’d chewed a piece while he wasn’t with me the day prior.

“Then what’s that?”

Gum

Busted. I played along, though. “That’s my gum.” (Yes, we really have separate gum; he doesn’t like the minty stuff.)

“Oh. Well, can I have a piece of my gum?”

I hand over a piece, and we ride along seeming to have forgotten about the gum. (At least, I thought.)

“I’m pretty sure that was my gum. See, yours is green-ish. Mine’s red. And this wrapper is the same color. Did you chew my gum?”

Nothing gets by him.

Over It

You know how things get trendy and then they just seem to linger on for what seems like forever?

Over It

Yeah, I’m over it. (Or, in a lot of these cases, I was never really into it.)

  • Chevron print
  • Thigh gap
  • Mustache everything
  • Pinterest (Original thoughts, are you still out there?)
  • [Insert noun here] Hacks
  • Foxes
  • Owls
And, of course, there are some things I don’t think I’ll ever get over. (See also: football, polka dots, sunroof weather, and chocolate.)

What are you over?

Coffee Date? Yes, Please!

Oh, my. I love coffee dates! I’m glad Alli had this great idea today!

If we were to sit down for coffee, I’d probably be a little winded and let out a sigh as I sat down. I’d curl up on the floor, as I have a tendency to do, and get ready to soak up this time with you.

 Coffee Date

My cup would probably not have coffee in it, unless we happen to be at J and Mal’s, where I would very nicely ask J to make me a latte. Otherwise, it’s way too hot around here for that.

I would be so grateful we were able to plan a coffee date, especially since friend time has been a little sparse this summer. I’d tell you about our summer and the fun we’ve had. I’d let you in on the little secret that I’m more than ready for the routine and structure that the school year brings–even if it’s only two days a week. I love knowing what days I can plan meetings, appointments, and fun without having to scramble to cram it all in!

I’d tell you how surprised I am at how much I’m enjoying our little house on the hill. It’s been nice scaling back a little and living a more simple life. Less stuff, less clutter, lots of organizing. I’ve loved the challenge of keeping a place to small from seeming filled to the brim. (I might even tell you I’ve been trying to get a blog post together on organizing small spaces, but I’m intimidated by the photography of it.)

I’d take another deep breath, feel like I was doing all the talking, and I’d ask you about you and yours. What would you share?

Shake it Off!

1. It’s Tuesday. Timehop told me this week I started Tuesday Ten a year ago. Yay, for 52-ish weeks of random thoughts.

2. I always have these big ideas for things that should be seemingly simple to carry out. This is mostly true in cases where birthday party invitations are involved.
3. The new Taylor Swift song? I dig it. Don’t judge. (It hasn’t beat out Call Me Maybe or Party In the USA for me yet, though.) Also, I can’t wait until Glee does it. You know they will.

4. Today in the store, my son used the phrase, “Speaking of…” correctly a minimum of three times. Where does he get this stuff?
5. Last night I got to hang with a house full of boys. Not the stinky kind. The still cute kind. They told me I was a princess, gave me a crown, and fixed my hair. Sign me up for this gig on the reg, please.

House of Boys
6. I use an unreasonable amount of lemon essential oil. It’s my favorite for summer.
7. This time next week, I’ll be chomping at the bit ready for football in South Carolina! I can’t wait!
8. I shared my thoughts on library books on social media this morning. I’d love your take.
9. Speaking of social media, thank you for sharing your hearts yesterday. I’m praying for your transitions! (About number four…)
10. Did I mention football starts next week? Did I mention I get to go? Did I mention I’m excited?

Unsettled

I know my word for the year is go–and I have clung to that. I know we were called here. I know we were supposed to go. I feel like the word for the season we’re in now, though is unsettled. It’s definitely not a word I prayed about or pored over or hoped for. It’s a word that just happened. We’re in a transition, and transitions are rarely fun. (They are usually necessary, though.)

I knew when we started to make our move that life wouldn’t be all ice cream and rainbows as we got situated. It seems I had forgotten, though, how long getting settled sometimes takes. Add in the fact that we moved in the summer when people are off their routines, and poof it’s a recipe for a long transition time. A time of being unsettled. We aren’t completely plugged in and pouring in to a church. We aren’t plugged in to a circle of friends. We aren’t on any kind of schedule with anything at this point.

As busy as our falls can be, I’m ready for the routine. I’m ready for Baby Gray’s soccer games and school days, family football trips, and whatever else comes our way.

Family Football

I’m ready to meet some more people, find a place to be plugged in, and shake this feeling of unsettled. I’m ready for community and doors that are always open. I’m learning and growing in this season (who knew there was so much I didn’t know about myself). I’m trying to embrace the refining process, but I’m ready to be settled. Every time the Lord tries to teach me patience, I remember how much I still have to learn.

If you’re feeling unsettled today, I’d love to pray for you. Leave me a note in the comments if you’d like. Let’s wait on settled together.

Good morning, sunshine!

Nothing says good morning like your trophy hunter dancing with its prey.
#thankgoodnessitwasntinmyhouse

Yes, I use hashtags in my blog. No, it doesn’t help anything. To make matters worse, after we came back from our “town errands,” the mouse was gone. Long gone. I hope it was dead and they ate it. Or they drug it to the pasture. Or anything but having it in my house as an option.
