One of my favorite things about being home with Baby Gray is that we can try pretty much anything he wants to try. This weekend, he decided he wanted to make cupcakes. We didn’t have time that day, but I told him we could get stuff to make them when we went to the store Monday. Then I completely forgot about it.
Luckily, an elephant never forgets (yes, I just compared my son to an elephant), and he reminded me as we strolled through the door. I wanted this to be a project for him, so I opted for a cake mix and soda cake* instead of taking the time to do it from scratch; his attention span isn’t quite that long just yet. He got to pick the cake mix he wanted and everything.
When we got home, the first thing he asked to do was bake. So, we did.
He helped pour and stir; he loved it! He especially liked picking out the cupcake liners (I have quite an array to choose from) and putting them in the baking tin.
We popped them in the oven, and he could hardly wait to enjoy.
*Choose a box of cake mix and any flavor soda. Mix one box of cake mix with one can of soda and bake at 350 degrees. Baking times vary based on pan size.
I'd heard of using soda for making cake before, but it never occurred to me how awesome it would be for letting little ones bake. No egg mess and pre-measured! Love the green tongue.
Love the idea of making a cake like this with toddlers/preschoolers! I just might have to make a cake today! Thanks for sharing!
It worked very well. Plus, it tastes good, too!
It was perfect! It's a great trick to keep up your sleeve!
