Use Your Noodle!

Our hometown is near a couple of little towns filled with great foods handmade with love by someone’s grandma. My favorite of almost all the foods is the homemade noodles. They’re perfect for soups because they don’t soak up too much water and get slimy.

I don’t make it to that part of the world very often, though, so I don’t always have someone’s Granny’s homemade noodles on hand. A while back, I saw some in WalMart that looked similar enough to give ’em a shot. They were with the “ethnic” foods, rather than the pasta, which gave them even more credibility, in my opinion.

On one of my grocery store runs for Mr. Gray supplies last week, I grabbed a bag to try in the soup I was making.

Noodles

They were pretty stinkin’ close! While I’m not a fan of WalMart, I am a fan of a good ol’ fashioned standby!

The soup I made? Super easy veggie noodle soup:

  • Melt a pat of butter in a soup pot
  • Add onions and celery; simmer until tender
  • Add baby carrots
  • Cover with chicken broth
  • Bring to a boil
  • Add noodles
  • Reduce heat and cook until veggies and noodles are tender

It was perfect for our home full of sickies!
