Go, Baby Gray, Go!

It’s no secret I love planning a party. I usually start conjuring up Baby Gray’s birthday party ideas well in advance. I remember a phone call to Bean back in December (yes, he was only 15 months old then) that went a little like this:

Me: If we go ahead with the football party idea, is it ridiculous to ask Mr. Gray to paint the yard like a football field?
Bean: Absolutely not! That would be awesome!
Me: I didn’t think so, either. And, yeah, I called you because I needed someone on my side in case there were any objections, and I knew you would be.

Mr. Gray kindly agreed (in December) to paint a football field for Baby Gray’s second birthday.

Preparation was in full swing–invitations dreamed up, found and ordered; Baby Gray’s jersey ordered; super simple menu planned out; pinata ordered; picking up things here and there that coordinated. The office/art room looked like a football party threw up–I knew I was on the right track!

Starting last week sometime, as everything else was coming together, I went into panicky-I’m-not-going-to-have-a-football-field-and-goal-posts-mode. Mr. Gray assured me he would take care of it, and I continued to panic that was that.

Until, it got real…

Then I knew it was all going to be all right. You see, sometimes I have these great visions, but only Mr. Gray can bring them to reality. It’s hard for me to relinquish that control. He always pulls through, though.

We kept the yard hidden from Baby Gray until his party, which turned out to be pretty easy.

We were at church most of the day, he had a quick birthday visit with Uncle Clay, and then he crashed until party time.

When he woke up, it was party time! We grabbed his jersey and got ready to head outside.

Lots of people were already here to celebrate. So, he walked out to see tons of smiling faces and his foo-fall party.

He had an absolute blast. He played football with anyone who would play with him.

He barely stopped to eat–well, except for cake. No problem there.

Little C and Shooby cheered him on, and at one point or another, everyone joined in. They were pretty good cheerleaders–at one point, almost the entire party was chanting, “Go, Baby Gray, go!” He was lovin’ it!

He hit the pinata as many times as we would allow, and kept coming back to try again!

He said farewell to all his guests, but the good-byes didn’t keep him from enjoying himself.

As the sun set on Gray Stadium, Baby Gray cried and cried. It was time to take a bath and get ready for bed–he didn’t want the day to end.

And, for the record, I didn’t forget to include a family photo–we forgot to take one! Yikes!
